Frequently asked questions

What is contractor HSSE management?

It is the process of managing health, safety, security and environmental risk across work done by contractors, covering the whole lifecycle: pre-qualification, tendering, contract award, mobilisation, execution, performance monitoring and close-out.

What is contractor HSSE pre-qualification?

Pre-qualification is the screening of potential contractors’ HSSE capability before they are allowed to bid, typically reviewing their management system, performance data, competence and past incidents. It should be proportionate to the risk of the work.

What is an HSSE bridging document?

A bridging document defines how the client’s and contractor’s HSSE management systems work together on a specific job — who is responsible for what, which procedures apply, and how interfaces such as permits and emergency response are managed.

Who is responsible for contractor safety?

Both the client and the contractor carry responsibilities. The contractor manages its own work and people, but the client remains responsible for selecting capable contractors, sharing information about site hazards, managing interfaces and monitoring performance.
